Pro Arte’s 47th season opens with Louisville-based conductor Gabriel Lefkowitz leading an expressive program for the strings, principal clarinetist Ian Greitzer, and principal bassoonist Ronald Haroutunian. In her Canyons, from 2018, Tanner Porter paints nature at its most jagged, imposing, and majestic. A work like no other, Richard Strauss’s vibrant Duett-Concertino features writing so organic, its solo clarinet and bassoon seem to become living, breathing characters. Although Josef Suk’s warm Serenade was a departure from his melancholy style, it won him early critical acclaim from Johannes Brahms and positioned him as the successor to his teacher Antonín Dvořák, and it brings this first concert to an elegant close.https://www.proarte.org/concerts/treasures-of-youth-and-age
