About this Event
Treading the Boards talk will take us back to the period of 1730 to 1850 which was the Golden Age of live theatre in Lincolnshire, with more theatres in the county than in 2025, more live performances than there are nowadays, and when actors could make a living just by working in local theatres. The theatre in Grantham had to be rebuilt in 1805 as audience numbers increased and the new theatre stood until the 1950s. This talk will describe4 the exciting story of the Lincoln Circuit of theatres, including Grantham where audiences could see the latest plays and performances by London stars and their popular local actors.
About your Speaker - Neil Wright is a Chairman Emeritus of the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology and author of numerous books and articles on the history of Lincolnshire, and Boston in particular.
