About this Event

Travel the world through your mind’s eye: explore, dream, and discover a quirky, less well-travelled road full of “things” to ignite your imagination!

About this event

Travel Things Museum will curate and present an exhibition showcasing everyday items from around the world steeped in aesthetic quality that seeks to encourage reflection: firstly, on the ways we understand and appreciate physical objects in the digital age; and secondly, how these objects shape our understanding of life around the world today. The exhibition collection comprises traditional arts and crafts; artisanal treasures; architectural elements; artworks; food and drink; and found objects. Some examples of items on display include: a Basothan mokorotlo; Burmese thanaka; Omani camel muzzles; an Ivatan headdress; and even Beijing yoghurt pots. Alongside the collection of physical objects, the exhibition will present travel documentaries, short films, and photographs.

“Travel Things Museum is an innovative, experimental, and interactive cultural arts project open to all. We’re light and fluffy! Everybody is welcome to join the exchange of ideas to learn about different societies in a fun, friendly, and safe environment.” – Jill Tsai, Founder

Travel Things Museum hope the exhibition will add to London’s rich multicultural landscape and enhance its already considerable reputation for the cultural arts.

Autumn 2021 exhibition – The Joy of World Travel : A Cultural Cornucopia of Everyday Objects

The show will be distinguished by a playful spirit of exploration and discovery. Everyday objects will be curated and presented in a unique and innovative way to illustrate the wonders of life around the world. The collection has been assembled by museum founder and curator Jill Tsai. It is a considered, insightful and valuable collection, providing a multicultural narrative on the visual arts through sound, pictures and moving images.

Special Caribbean showcase – “Irie in the Sunshine”

As a respectful nod to the vibrant British-Caribbean community and influences in Brixton, which will play host to our Autumn 2021 exhibition, we have created a special showcase of everyday objects from Barbados, Jamaica, and St. Lucia. We hope the showcase will go some way at least in proving it sure is “irie” in the sunshine.
