Completion of RYT200 is required. Since trauma is stored in the body, you will learn practices to release trauma, get in touch with your body and learn self-defense. Learn practical women's self-defense techniques rooted in empowerment and personal safety. This group will introduce participants to physical and verbal self-defense skills they can easily remember, fostering confidence, boundary-setting, and body awareness in a trauma-informed, respectful, and affirming environment. Some skills participants can choose to practice involve yelling, hitting a pad with force, and respectful physical contact between participants or with the instructor. Bring your water bottle and come ready to move.
The instructor is a 3rd degree black belt in a mixed martial art and has 10+ years of various martial arts training as well as writing her Ph.D. Dissertation on the topic of women's self-defense. She currently runs the prevention education department of the Sexual Violence Resource Center of the Bluegrass, the rape crisis center that serves our county.
