About this Event
Key Learning Outcomes
- Understand the importance of self when working with trauma, including strategies to combat burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
- Recognise the process of becoming trauma-informed, including where you/your organisation is in this process, and what you can do to take steps forward
- Examine the impacts that trauma has on the body and mind, and what behaviours we are likely to see from people who have experienced trauma
- Understand how to create safety for others, through knowledge of how the nervous system responds to threat
- Explore how you can use the evidence-based wellbeing strategies with yourself and others through a sensory wellbeing walk around St. Andrews
This residential is for practitioners working directly with children, young people or families who have experienced trauma.
Background
This unique residential course, taking place at the Stirling Court Hotel, will give you the opportunity to uncover how trauma is an embodied experience that affects the body as well as the mind.
You will explore these embodied aspects of trauma in a supportive space and draw on the experiences of other practitioners to develop best practice. Spread across three days, sessions will combine trauma theory with practical strategies, in-depth discussion and sensory activities.
Through understanding that becoming trauma-informed is a process, you will establish where you/your organisation is on this journey and what you can do to take steps forward and change lives.
NOTE: Ticket prices include full accommodation (your own single bedroom including en-suite bathroom) and meals for the duration of the residential.
