This training will provide yoga teachers with an in-depth understanding of the human nervous system and how different types of trauma affect all of us. We'll then explore the science and evidence behind body-based healing modalities such as yoga. Teachers will learn and then practice facilitating trauma-informed yoga classes, understand how trauma-informed yoga classes may be different from studio classes, and come away with important skills to apply to teaching yoga in any setting.
This training will include lectures with note taking encouraged, discussion time, example classes, small group work, practice teaching, and a final teaching assessment.
This training is open to yoga teachers and non-yoga teachers who are interested. Learning how to create safe spaces and communicate skillfully with traumatized people are valuable skills that all of us should have. If registered with Yoga Alliance, you'll receive 16 continuing education hours.
Carrie and graduates of her last Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training
Facilitated by:
Your guide, Carrie Hoffman, has been teaching trauma-informed yoga for 6+ years and incorporates trauma-sensitive techniques into all of her classes. Her trauma-informed yoga training was through Prison Yoga Project and Yoga Ed. Carrie has been the head teacher and program manager of the Flagstaff Juvenile Detention Center's yoga program for five years. She's also taught at youth shelters, schools, sober livings, studios, festivals, teacher trainings, and on many of her own recovery-oriented retreats! Carrie ran her first trauma-informed yoga teacher training in 2023, and loves helping yoga teachers and wellness professionals grow their knowledge to serve more.
Carrie uses trauma-sensitive teaching practices in all her classes and retreats!
In-person option:
"Synergy is an intimate healing collective for the body, mind, and spirit."
Synergy Body Mind Spirit is a small and cozy studio which we have completely reserved for this training. It's upstairs in the 2501 N. 4th Street Plaza. A bathroom is available in the plaza outside the studio. Please bring a mat, a notebook and pen or laptop for note taking, and any bolsters or props you'd like to sit on for comfort. Synergy is a small space, so there are only 8 in-person spots available. So reach out with questions now and don't wait too long if you'd like to attend in person.
Online option:
For those in other parts of the world, the entire training will be offered via Zoom live-stream. Live-streaming attendees will have the option of presenting a teaching assessment via Zoom live with the in-person students, or submitting a recorded teaching assessment after finishing the course. If live-streaming doesn't work with your schedule or time zone, you can opt to receive video recordings of the training to watch on your own timeline. You'll be asked to record and submit a teaching assessment before receiving your certificate. To register for the online version of the course, select "Online" under the "Lodgings" menu at the top of this page during signup.
