shared learning, and a celebration of resilience.
About this Event
The conference has been meticulously curated to bring together leading experts, practitioners, and advocates in trauma-informed care.
In Australia, we continue to put extensive emphasis on the use of the biomedical model to understand and treat mental health conditions, with a heavy reliance upon restrictive and re-traumatising practices such as restraint, seclusion and enforced medications as go-to treatments. This is even though trauma-informed practices contribute positively and significantly to the mental health of individuals, families, and carers, by fostering environments that prioritise safety, trust, empowerment and cultural sensitivity.
This conference will enhance the mental health and well-being throughout the entire legal profession for better case outcomes, reduced vicarious trauma and improved systems for all involved. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of trauma-informed practices, meet and network with leaders and experts in law, medicine and education, foster a resilient and empowered community, collaborate and raise awareness for better mental health in law, Improve client relations and claim Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Speakers include:
- Saul Holt KC
- Zagi Kozarov Criminal and Family Law
- Dr Angelo De Alwis
- Danielle Carroll (DV Survivor)
- Suzanne Fulford (Snr Psychologist, Q Health)
Understanding and addressing clients' trauma can help build trust and rapport, leading to more effective lawyer-client relationships.
