Trauma Informed Care & Cultural Humility Workshop : Approaching Maternal Health through a Trauma Informed & Culturally Responsive Lens
About this Event

Trauma Informed Care & Cultural Humility Workshop : Approaching Maternal Health through a Trauma Informed & Culturally Responsive Lens for Doulas, Midwives, Lactation

Consultants, Birth Workers, and Maternity Health Workers.

This workshop is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of how trauma and cultural identity impact maternal health outcomes. By integrating principles of trauma-informed care and cultural humility, the session will explore strategies for creating safe, respectful, and responsive healthcare experiences for birthing people. Participants will examine systemic inequities, historical trauma, and implicit bias as they relate to maternal health disparities—particularly for Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color. This interactive training is ideal for healthcare providers, doulas, social workers, community health workers, and anyone engaged in supporting pregnant and postpartum individuals.

What you can expect:

  • Foundational Knowledge: Learn key concepts of trauma-informed care and cultural humility, and how they apply specifically to maternal health.
  • Understanding Impact: Explore the effects of trauma—including historical and systemic trauma—on birthing people’s health, trust, and engagement with care systems.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Gain tools to better understand and honor the diverse cultural identities, values, and lived experiences of the individuals you serve.
  • Interactive Activities: Engage in reflection exercises, group discussions, and case studies to apply learning in real-time.
  • Practical Strategies: Walk away with actionable steps to build more equitable, compassionate, and effective maternal health services.
  • Safe Learning Space: Participate in a respectful, inclusive environment that encourages self-reflection, dialogue, and growth.

This workshop will be facilitated by Divine Transitions Full Spectrum Doula Care Services and Action to Healing.
