About this Event
Join the for an in-store event with Mirela Kulović and Ksenija Kadić to discuss and honor the release of Playground.
A groundbreaking collaboration manual for fostering authentic connections and embracing the unknown. Playground brings together philosophy and art through the unique collaboration of Ksenija Kadić and Mirela Kulović. This book documents their year-long, authentic philosophical conversations, providing readers with a powerful example of co-creation and a guide for navigating their own creative journeys.
Delving into the essence of playfulness, Playground explores the philosophy of "Space to be Different" a concept born from the authors' shared experiences as "misfits, displaced, nomads." Through chapters designed for random access and filled with questions for the reader, this book invites you to step outside your comfort zone, embrace spontaneity, and discover the transformative power of relationships. It offers a new perspective on collaboration, showing how vulnerability, curiosity, and a willingness to explore the uncharted can lead to profound self-discovery and lasting connections.
More than just a book, Playground is an experience, designed to inspire nomadic creators to build nurturing, long-lasting collaborative spaces wherever they are in the world.
Both Kadić and Kulović were born in Bosnia and Herzegovina which was one of the six republics of ex Social Federalist Republic Yugoslavia (SFRY). The country which no longer exists on the map of the world as one unity but only in the memories of those who survived the brotherly conflict in 1992. Kulović grew up and finished her engineering graduate studies in Croatia and after that moved to the US where she still resides. She uses her experience of displacement in her artistic projects to find a way to understand a feeling of not belonging and being different and disconnected from roots. Kadić escaped war seeking refuge in Croatia for a brief period of time before migrating to the United Kingdom where she still resides. Kadić saw her journey of immigration as a deeply profound personal creative process, which has shaped her personal and professional life.
Mirela Kulović is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice unfolds across multiple geographies and disciplines. Her work spans drawing, painting, film, sculpture, and, more recently, text-based and participatory art. Grounded in long-term processes, material experimentation, and relational engagement, her practice foregrounds making as an ongoing, embodied form of inquiry. Alongside her studio practice, she actively supports arts institutions, community programming, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. She regularly participates in international discussions on art, culture, and migration, and has lectured in high schools, universities, and other public settings.
Ksenija Kadić is a writer, creative practitioner, and transformational coach, and the founder of the School of Fluidity Association in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She holds a BSc in Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London, and later moved into creative and participatory art practice. She is the creator of the Fluidity of Self philosophy, which explores identity as relational, creative, and fluid. Her work spans multiple countries through Transformatorio Lab, where she collaborated with artists across disciplines, exhibiting in Genova, Italy, and performing original poetry and puppetry rooted in archetypal exploration.
