About the Programme

From stories you can interact with through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), to stories which take the form of online comics and text-based interactive games, people can now experience reading beyond the world of books.

Come learn about the dynamic landscape of transmedia storytelling in today’s technologically driven day and age, and how going digital doesn’t mean having to feel less.

This programme is a joint initiative by the National Arts Council and the National Library Board.

About the Author(s)

Christine Chong is the head of Tusitala, a Singapore-based digital storytelling studio that creates novel literary experiences.

She has an MA in English Literature from the National University of Singapore, and a background in editorial and arts management.

She currently serves on the executive committee of the Singapore Book Publishers Association.

Charlene Shepherdson is the Business Development Manager of Difference Engine, an independent comics publisher based in Singapore, and an interdisciplinary writer who creates experiences using visual text, interactive narratives and historical archives.

The breadth of their practice spans poetry, creative nonfiction, visual art installations and social sculptures with a deep focus on the ideas that exist in the in-betweens.

In this nebulous space, they facilitate communities and hold space for them to share their stories—to reclaim, reframe and reimagine their realities.

Alex Mitchell is a senior lecturer in the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore.

His work explores various aspects of play, games and storytelling across media.

His co-authored book Videogame Formalism: On form, aesthetic experience, and methodology was published in 2023 by Amsterdam University Press.

His creative work has been shown at various group exhibitions, most recently ID: The Body's Still Warm (42 Cambridge Road, 2018) and Climates of Change (ELO/HyperText, 2020).

His fiction has been published in Dark Tales, Balik Kampung 2, and in several issues of the Twenty-Four Flavours series published by Math Paper Press.

He is a founding member of the executive board of the Association for Research in Interactive Digital Narratives (ARDIN), and an advisor to the Singapore Games Association.
