About this Event
Transitioning a child into or out of your care can be an emotional and complex process. This training provide a community of pratice for foster carers to share their experience, learn from each other, and get some advice from senior supervising social workers.
Areas that may be covered include:
- Understanding the child’s feelings and behaviour during transition.
- Building positive communication with the new carer, birth family, or adoptive family.
- Sharing essential information to support continuity of care (routines, likes/dislikes, triggers, etc.).
- Helping the child prepare emotionally — through reassurance, honesty, and maintaining familiar routines.
- Managing your own feelings and seeking support when needed.
- Using life story work, memory boxes, or photos to help the child make sense of their journey.
The goal is to make transitions as stable and supportive as possible, ensuring the child feels safe, understood, and cared for throughout the process.
