About this Event
This event by Transition Chesterfield expands on the work already done by seamsters at the regular monthly Repair Cafes, to encourage people to reduce the amount they buy by making, mending and re-cycling clothing. We will talk about the historic development of the textile and clothing industries, the recent increase in consumption of cheap textiles due to online market-places and globalisation, and the impact of Fast Fashion on resources, pollution, climate change and people. We'll share easy ways to reduce our own carbon footprints by buying less clothing, buying better quality, taking care of clothes to increase their life-span, and eventually disposing of them mindfully. There will be skill-shares, a "transform-a-duvet cover" challenge, examples of repaired and up-cycled clothes, and a clothing-swap table. We hope to inform, inspire, share stories and build a Sustainable Clothing Community in Chesterfield.
The event is free, with donations to Transition Chesterfield requested for refreshments.
The Church Hall has steps and ramp access, toilet facilities, and ample car parking on adjacent roads.
