A film screening and community conversation on using transformative practices to address public safety and community health in SnoCo.
About this Event

Participatory Justice in partnership with CHOOSE180 and the Black Prisoners Caucus Community Group is hosting a series of community listening sessions in Snohomish County over the next year to discuss Restorative and Transformative Justice practices as a community health & public safety strategy.

The purpose of our community listening sessions is to:
*Discuss the historical and current impacts of systemic violence and the carceral system on our community
*Educate community on the framework and practices of Restorative and Transformative Justice
*Generate feedback from directly impacted people about; what we envision for community-held practices to address serious harm and violence outside the carceral system that focuses on healing, support through accountability and addressing root causes
*Develop a communal plan for what resources, infrastructure and partnerships are needed to realize this vision
*Engage stakeholders to support community-held efforts of implementing and resourcing Restorative Justice initiatives
We will be screening the multi-award winning documentary film “Since I Been Down” to demonstrate the resiliency of those impacted by the carceral system and the inspiration it offers to join the movement for Restorative Justice.
Following the screening, Kimonti Carter, the subject of the documentary, will moderate a panel and community discussion on how we will build networks of care utilizing these practices, that ultimately reduce the use of the carceral system and punitive punishment responses.
