Free in-person session aimed at anyone working in Inverclyde who is likely to come into contact with people who may have experienced trauma
About this Event

Being "trauma informed" means being able to recognise when someone may be affected by trauma, collaboratively adjusting how we work to take this into account and responding in a way that supports recovery, does no harm and recognises and supports people's resilience.

To support Inverclyde's ambition to become a trauma informed and responsive local authority, a series of Level 2 Trauma Skilled training sessions are available to all staff working in Inverclyde. This full-day session is aimed at anyone who is likely to come into contact with people who have experienced trauma, whether trauma is known about or not. The session may also be helpful for anyone who already has a baseline knowledge of trauma informed practice and may be looking to expand your skills and reflect on your practice. You are not required to have attended Level 1 training before joining this session, however attendees are asked to complete some online pre-learning prior to attending.

This training is part of the National Trauma Transformation Programme (NTTP). More information about the NTTP can be found here. If you are unsure which level of training best fits for you and your role, you might find this Practice Type Checker a helpful guide.

This session aims to help attendees to understand:

  • Definition and prevalence of trauma
  • Ways that trauma can affect people, including impact on brain, body and behaviour
  • What trauma informed care is and how to trauma inform professional relationships
  • How to support people following traumatic events and help recovery
  • The importance of caring for our own well being

Please note: We know that traumatic experiences are common. During this event, traumatic experiences will not be talked about in detail, and you will not be asked to share any personal experiences of trauma. However, please do consider your own wellbeing during and after the session.
