About this Event
Join us to celebrate our vibrant trans and nonbinary community as we share our stories and culture during a welcoming and moving storytelling workshop! This is a wonderful opportunity to explore and ground oneself in the context of our long trans lineage of culture and community building.
This event is a collaboration between Sam & Devorah Foundation for Transgender Youth and Life Jacket Theatre Company for trans and nonbinary youth ages 18-22. Participants will build community with other trans and nonbinary young adults as they tell their authentic stories with the support of each other and the guidance of storytelling coaches.
There are two parts to this event.
Part One will take place over Zoom on July 25th from 7:30-8:30PM EST. If you cannot attend the Zoom session, we will send a recording, but attendance in real-time is strongly encouraged.
Part Two will take place in person, on July 30th, from 10:00 AM-4PM EST, in Downtown Manhattan. Snacks will be provided and the event will end with a shared meal with new friends
This event is open to all people who identify as trans or nonbinary, ages 18 to 22. Registration is $25. Scholarships are available. Please visit samdevorah.org for more information. If you have questions, please reach out to [email protected].
We will share our stories boldly, proudly & unapologetically. We hope to see you there! Sam & Devorah celebrates the diversity of the TGNB community. All voices are welcome and everyone is encouraged to join.
About Sam and Devorah Project for Transgender Youth
Founded in March 2016 to honor the memory of Sam Harel Price, a junior at Oberlin College, the mission of Sam & Devorah Foundation for Trans Youth is to support trans and non-binary youth by offering safe spaces and programs where they can connect, thrive and be empowered.
About Life Jacket Theatre Company
Life Jacket’s mission is to tell undertold stories – those that are currently or historically rejected, erased, or forgotten. We build every show using interview transcripts, documentary materials, and other found texts. We combine these disparate materials together to create highly theatrical, visually inventive, and lyrically rich works that provoke meaningful conversations about socially excluded communities – particularly outsiders, non-conformers, and outcasts.
We also value community outreach and social justice. Life Jacket's educational initiative, THE STORYTELLING PROJECT, helps young people in underserved communities tell real-life stories in personal, engaging, and creative ways using various theatrical languages including spoken word, music, and dance. Our teaching artists nurture a safe, inviting, and creative space to help uplift future storytellers and guide them in shaping and sharing their undertold stories to usher in a new era.
