Join us Tuesday evening, April 1st at Northstreet for a Trans 101 Bootcamp with Lily Hislop (she/her)! This secular and scientifically-based bootcamp is geared toward folks who are uncertain and want to learn more, for folks who are looking for ways to deepen their allyship, and for anyone in between! It is a safe place to ask questions. Lily’s presentation will focus on the history of trans identities and will cover common questions many people have on this topic. Following the presentation, we will open the floor to a community discussion centered around continued allyship and ways to support Madison’s LGBTQ+ community. Save the date for this free community event made complete with complimentary treats from Bloom! A note from Lily: "Hello! My name is Lily, I am a queer cisgender woman. I am also a geneticist, biological scientist, and environmentalist. I am presenting on this topic because being transgender is a marginalized identity. As someone who is relatively knowledgeable about the topic, but not marginalized myself by it, I want to be able to educate my peers. I want to make it clear that I am not an expert in gender identity or theory, I'm just someone who's tried very hard to listen. I might not say everything “right” here. But I have many loved ones who are trans, I've gone through some gender exploration myself. I believe that trans people are people who deserve more safety, understanding, and respect."
