About this Event
Spend an afternoon learning about the trolleys and streetcars that once moved people on the lower Virginia Peninsula. A Newport News trolley will take us to Fort Monroe to observe the restoration of the Peninsula’s last remaining streetcar (the historic car #390) and to the newly opened Newport News Transportation Center, an inter-city train station and intermodal transport hub.
The tour will be led by museum historians J. Michael Moore and Mary Kayaselcuk of Newport News Historic Services, and Greg Siegel, director of the 390 Streetcar Restoration Project. Your journey will begin and end at Lee Hall Depot, where there is ample free parking.
Your ticket includes admission to Lee Hall Depot on April 5. There will be an operational exhibit of model streetcars as well as games and crafts before the tour. Please ensure you are ready to board the trolley at 12:45pm for a 1:00pm departure.
The trolley is heated and air conditioned and has traditional wooden bench seating. It does not have seat belts and cannot accommodate car seats, so the tour is not recommended for children under 8. The trolley is wheelchair accessible. If you use a wheelchair, please contact us at [email protected] when purchasing your ticket so we can adjust the ticket capacity accordingly.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and at Lee Hall Depot on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. A small convenience fee applies to online sales. Please note that online ticket pre-sales end at 3:00pm on Friday, April 4. Remaining tickets, if available, may be purchased beginning at 10:00am at Lee Hall Depot on Saturday, April 5.
