About this Event
Training - Refugees, Migrants, Trafficking & Exploitation vs. Trauma (NCPS Quality Checked)
The topic of refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, exploitation and trafficking is often in the news. These clients have often experienced trauma and loss on 3 different levels:
- In their country of origin
- On the journey to the UK
- Within England as well
On top of that, there may be a variety of legal challenges, including age assessments and asylum claims (or appeals).
This training will shed some light on the challenges this clientele might face and specific traumas they might have experienced (including exploitation, trafficking and FGM). We will have a brief look at cultural identity and cultural awareness, using a systemic approach. We will explore how to increase therapeutic safety with often presenting complex trauma cases and we'll practice on various fictional cases.
We will have the chance of working with a live Dutch "client", giving us a chance to practice with some of the technicalities and challenges of working with an interpreter in a triad.
Who is this training for:
The training is suitable for both student and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, psychologists, support workers, GP's, psychiatrists, hypnotherapists, as well as any other mental health professional who works with trauma or wants to work with traumatised clients.
This Training Day can be taken on its own, or as the 8th training day as part of the NCPS Quality Checked 10-day Foundation Diploma - Therapeutic Safety in Trauma. It is taught face-to-face in Southend-on-Sea.
