10 WAYS TO BUILD TRUST IF YOU WANT TO SUCCESSFULLY SELL ONLINE IN NIGERIA
Yesterday I was having a discussion with my co-wife about online business.
So she mentioned a certain event where someone who wanted to buy from her online was asking if she was scam.
I then told her that TRUST-BUILDING is a major requirement to grow and sell online.
If you build trust, you will sell more.
If you build trust, no one will mention 'pay on delivery' to you.
If you build trust, people will easily refer you to others.
So I started telling her how to build trust online.
I thought to share our discussion with you.
This is how to build trust as a small business owner who wants to successfully sell online in this Nigeria.
1. Sell only products you are proud to be associated with.
My friend who sells Kayan Mata is not proud of it and has struggled with trust building because she doesn't do many of the other things I will tell you shortly.
Don't sell fake things that you know do not work.
Sell only the things you can beat your chest for.
2. Put your face to the brand.
Include videos, pictures and stories of you on the social media pages of the business.
Make sure to watermark the videos or pictures where you are selling your products so scammers do not lift and use them.
Storytelling is such a powerful way to build trust. Please use it to your advantage.
Tell stories of your team, your production/sourcing process, your struggles and more. Ofcourse without giving out any trade secrets.
3. Register your business with the CAC and get a corporate bank account in a regular commercial bank.
Do not ask customers to pay to a personal account, or one of these online banks. Display boldly your CAC and corporate account details.
4. Register with Paystack or Flutterwave. These are the most popular payment gateways and they allow customers to apply for chargebacks.
You can generate payment links and ask first-time customers to pay with the link, so if you don't deliver, they simply apply for charge back.
Paystack and Flutterwave can be used as a form of escrow.
5. Ask for, and publish tons of customer testimonials.
Ensure to ask the customers to mention your business name in the testimonials so it is as real as possible.
Watermark the testimonials too before posting.
6. Publish educational content related to what you sell.
For example, if you sell crayfish, once a week, you can publish a crayfish recipe.
A sca*mmer is most likely not to bother about teaching anything valuable, so this separates you from a sc*am page.
7. Grow your page with vigor. Post often. Let your last post always be today or yesterday.
Surely, a 5 year old page with 4000 posts cannot be a sca*m page.
The age of your page and the frequency of your posts also tell that you are real.
8. Include discussions of current matters in your posts.
On 1st October, write a post to congratulate and pray for Nigeria.
On Sallah or Christian holidays, do the same too.
A sc*am page doesn't do this.
9. Publish and publish all helpful information about your business like physical address (if any), email address, phone number, price list, how to buy online guidelines, refund policy, etc
10. Have a peculiar brand voice that is warm and kind.
Even from your writings or videos, we can tell a sweet and warm person.
Never forget that people only buy when the Know, Like and Trust (KLT) you.
So you don't only need their trust, you need their likeness.
Are you likeable?
.
.
.
Surely if you apply all these 10 points, you will sit at home and be making massive sales online.
You will stop complaining that POD (Pay On Delivery) is hurting your business.
You will stop complaining that they are calling you sca*mmer.
You will sell and sell and sell and grow and grow and grow online.
Get to work now.
I love you!
