✨ A new weekly conscious dance night arrives in Collingwood. ✨ 🎶 An extremely carefully curated two hour music mix shall guide a journey each Wednesday night. Cacao before, chats after. This aims to be a space of expression, authenticity and safety. The soundscape aims to inspire, move and transport. We think both music and movement are medicines, and we love that conscious dance can be a solo journey or a journey of connection, depending on what one needs on a given night. We’d love to see you there.
💧 ‘Sissy Heff’ AKA Harley Hefford and ‘Water Signs’ AKA Callum Lawson are co-coordinating this event, with original live music created and performed by Callum and light facilitation offered by Harley. Seasoned dancers, as well as those who have never attended a conscious dance before are welcome.
💃 Some conscious dance essentials are:
- Once you enter the space, no talking.
- No alcohol or substances.
- The music tends to begin gently, increase in energy and then settle again, guiding us in a 'wave.' A wave tends to be 1-3 hours.
- Move however you're called to move, which can include sitting or lying down.
- You don't need to interact with anyone if you don't want to.
🤓 Specifics of how this one shall run is:
- Arrive between 7.30-8pm to stretch and/or drink Cacao. During this time, a 30 min warm-up mix, selected and DJed by Harley.
- At 8pm, we'll quickly pause the music for the reading of a poem. (As the community grows, different community members might choose and read aloud the week's poem.)
- At 8pm doors are closed, nobody can enter after that. People usually stay until the end at 9.30pm. Thus, each event is a ‘closed container.’
- As well as dancing or laying still, there will be space and supplies for journaling or using art materials at the sides of room.
- There will be occasional facilitation, making a suggestion which you only follow if it feels right.
- Over time, we may explore using different floors of the venue!??! Potentially having Callum’s music playing across different floors, and folks having the option to wander/dance up the stairs and to different floors.
- Just before 9.30pm, the music mix will end into a moment of silence. There'll be a small moment of sharing before we finish.
"As an attendee of 5 rhythms, Open Floor, ecstatic dance, contact improv, and physical theatre workshops for 15 years, I have always had the desire to share such a space of my own. Over this time, I've developed my skills as a DJ, facilitator and host, as well as beginning studies in art therapy. I wish to bring all of this together and allow movement and music to be gateways to peace."

✨ Dances such as these can be a fantastic way to process the week and move through whatever might be alive. Sometimes you have a very internal slow dance and that's beautiful, sometimes you are feeling incredibly playful and making the strangest possible movements on the dance floor, sometimes you are drawn to a small group and end up connecting through non-verbal conversation. A chance to move through things, amongst others, every Wednesday night. Might see you there ✨

Trainscendence is a members-only venue, buying a ticket to this event includes a free membership to Trainscendence. / Trainscendence is accessed via an alley with uneven cobblestones, but has a lift which goes to every floor except the rooftop terrace and two large accessibility bathrooms. Thus, if folks who use a wheelchair navigate the laneway, the venue itself should be mostly accessible. / The place we now call 'Collingwood' is said to have been once known as Yálla-birr-ang by Wurundjeri. We pay respects to first nations. It is an honour and privilege to live and create on this unceded Aboriginal land, which knows tens of thousands of years of culture, storytelling and gatherings. As a nation, may we confront the full reality of our history as a part of moving forwards harmoniously. / Trainscendence feel it should go without saying that we do not tolerate bullying, racism, sexism, ableism or gender or sexuality-based harassment /
