Is this course for you?
We work with people who have, or who are capable of acquiring the skills to be a great guide.
You do not need to be a historian; as knowledge can be acquired. In this course, we focus on the skills and behaviours to be a successful tour guide. Your age, background, and profession are not important - though you will need a clear speaking voice!
By the end of the one day’s training, you will have a good grasp of the fundamentals of planning and delivering a tour on foot to a group of visitors or guests.
You will boost your confidence to deliver a memorable experience for visitors to your venue, town, or city. This could be wanting to give tours of your garden, a building where you work or volunteer, or delivering a short walking tour around a town or city.
The training can also be the first step towards becoming a professional tour guide.
Across the day you will undertake four modules both in the classroom and in a practical setting. Demonstrations and one-to-one feedback on your approach is included.
Module One: Tour planning overview
Module Two: Introduction to practical techniques
Module Three: Storytelling
Module Four: Develop and guide a set scenario
The Introduction to Tour guiding will award you with a certificate of attendance. We will advise you if you on proceeding to the optional advanced training modules - to cover walking tour best practice in-depth, introduction to coach guiding and microphone training.
