Fine Print: Ride, walk, drive, just come Wednesday, May 15, during West King Market (5PM-8PM). We will celebrate the St. Johns River to Sea Loop multi-use trail being funded. A labor of love by many to connect the river to the city to the sea. We will toast twice so you can enjoy shopping. Bike rack dedication and toast at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. All ages are welcome, great outside space. Rain or shine unless West King Market cancels. The event is promoted by We Are Planning and supported by Bog Brewing Company and the West King Market. What - St. Johns River to Sea Loop trail has been funded! Most of us have been working towards this bike trail for years, some decades. In 2018/2019 a study was conducted and the result was 13 grant applications to complete the 40+ mile gap in St. Johns County. More details to come, and thank yous. The St. Johns River to Sea Loop is a 260-mile loop stretching from St. Augustine to Titusville, ocean to the St. Johns. It is intended to be a separated multi-use path. While challenges remain due to the existing built environment (how dare the original city planners not consider cars, buses, bikes, horses, electric scooters, one wheel, wheel chairs, in 1565!!) with creative design and finally, funds, it is becoming a reality! Who - Labor of locals love of trails, Heather (thats me) is still at it. Just want to get everyone together to continue the work until the trail is constructed. There is still much to do!
When - We decided everyone is busy, so joining together with others seemed the best bet! West King Market (third Wednesday) is perfect. It's right in the middle of the planned route, there are amazing artists and vendors, yummy treats and eats, and for now, a giant parking lot near US1 and West King. 5:30P and 7:30 PM. So nice we will do it twice on May 15th.
Where - West King Area. Check @TheWestKingMarket for more info. We will have two opportunities to toast, at 5:30 and 7:30 at Bog Brewing Company. And we found out that in addition to already supporting crazy events like Bikes Brews and Crews, they were installing a rack! So they will be dedicating a bike rack that night! Ride, walk, drive, just come.
Why - Because big infrastructure projects are hard. Because the world needs some positivity. Because bikes and bike things are just fun. Because its been too long since we got together. Because the bike trail announcement was blended into all county projects and needs its own celebration (especially since it took a decade to get the votes needed). Because....... we (Heather) put some energy to it.
