Follow along specialty coffee’s seed-to-cup journey as we discuss coffee growing, processing, grading, roasting, brewing, and tasting, practicing several useful skills along the way.
This is our most popular coffee training class for good reason: there’s a little bit of everything for those interested in learning more about specialty coffee.
We’ll discuss coffee farms and growing from past to present and introduce the ways that terroir, species, and green coffee processing method affects the finished cup. Next, peek inside a roaster and learn about the changes that take place during the roasting process. After calibrating our palates to basic tastes and introducing the Coffee Tasters Flavor Wheel, we’ll practice sensory evaluation in a coffee cupping. We’ll also practice brewing coffee using a manual brewing device.
No prior experience is necessary. This Specialty Coffee Association course is the recommended prerequisite for many other SCA coffee training classes.
Successful completion of this course and a short online written exam qualifies the learner for the Specialty Coffee Association’s Introduction to Coffee certificate .
Course fee include all SCA Certificate Fees.
Face Covering and Mask Requirement: Face covering and masks are required while attending the training sessions or being in the building and not actively tasting coffee.
Hospitality
Dress Code: Don’t wear too much perfume as it interferes with tasting and smelling of coffee.
