What's Sun-style Taichi?Sun Style Taijiquan is part of the entire Sun Style Internal Arts form created by Grandmaster Sun Lu Tang about a century ago. The rest of the arts include Sun Style Baguazhang and Sun Style Xingyiquan. Although the youngest of the family of Taijiquan, Sun style gain popularity for its therapeutic use with high stances and easy to learn movements, hence never stressing the knees and yet able to build up Qi quickly. Sun style is excellent for mindfulness training focusing on internal training rather than merely on the external form.
What's in a lesson?
A typical 2-hour session starts with Wu Ji Zhuang or emptiness stance; this is essential to Taiji as it calms the practitioner and directs his focus before commencing form practice. This is followed by San Ti Zhuang or Heaven, Earth and Person stance practised in Sun Style Xingyiquan to develop the intention towards form practice. Students will then learn and practice traditional 98 form Sun Style Taijiquan as seen in Sun Lu Tang's classic book - The Art of Taijiquan.
Who's teaching?
The instructor, Ivan Ang, is one of the only handful of instructors in Singapore to teach authentic and traditional Sun style taichi. He is also, as of now, the only person to teach the complete Traditional Sun style internal arts (Taijiquan, Baguazhang, and Xingyiquan) in Southeast Asia and few in the world outside China. A coach and wushu judge, he had 26 years of experience in Taijiquan and is the 4th generation lineage holder under and disciple of Grandmaster Sun Wan Rong, granddaughter of Sun style founder, Sun Lu Tang.
