Join us on Saturday, Nov. 9th for an afternoon of traditional Mennonite patterns and printmaking with 2024/2025 Artist-in-Residence Margruite Krahn!MARGRUITE KRAHN restores and re-imagines hand painted Mennonite house barn floor patterns from the turn of the 20th century. Her work engages with the contrast of home as sanctuary and as a place that holds conflict, alongside changing traditions and practices of beauty.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
- 12:30 PM - Begin at the GREBEL GALLERY (Conrad Grebel University College, 140 Westmount Road North, 4th Floor, Waterloo) with an artist tour of Margruite's Re-surfacing: Mennonite floor patterns exhibit. This exhibit brings to light the beautiful and practical testaments of Mennonite women's self-expression despite the economic and gender constraints of 19th and 20th century rural Manitoba.
- 1:00 PM- Participants walk together (25 min) or find their own transportation to nearby Brubacher House.
- 1:30 PM - Meet at BRUBACHER HOUSE (Frank Tompa Dr., Waterloo) for a printmaking workshop with Margruite, refreshments and a tour of the 1850's house.
