About the Artist
Gerry O’Connor hails from Dundalk, Co. Louth, and was raised in a remarkable family of musicians, dancers, and singers. All were taught at home by his mother, Rose O’Connor, a legendary fiddle teacher who passed her knowledge on to hundreds of students over four decades. Learners traveled from across counties Louth, Meath, Armagh, and Dublin to study with her.
Immersed in Irish traditional music from an early age, Gerry went on to win numerous All-Ireland titles in duets, trios, and céilí bands. His musical style was profoundly influenced in the 1970s by his time playing with John Joe Gardiner, a contemporary of Michael Coleman, shaping his fluid, lyrical approach rooted in the great Sligo fiddle tradition.
A talented step-dancer as well, Gerry brings a deep rhythmic vitality to his playing. This grounding in dance gives his music its distinctive pulse and drive, earning him recognition as one of the great fiddle players of his generation.
