In times gone by music was as much a pastime as it was for performance. Whilst most royal courts had resident musicians who would entertain and accompany dances and balls, music also had a place in the homes of the times.Local early musicians, Dulciana , model the familial pastime of the era by sharing authentic music of the time playing a range of period instruments including recorders, crumhorns, curtal, flutes, lute and citole. They will be showcasing the early clarinet and precursor, the chalumeau. This is not a formal performance but a living history of how music would have been shared and even discovered together around hearths and fireplaces of houses such as East Riddlesden Hall.
Normal admission applies, free entry for National Trust members and under fives. Booking not necessary.
