Tracks & Hides - A Holistic Approach to Hunting, Harvesting & Processing
Advertisement
This is everything that the CORE hunters and Firearms courses won't teach you… No prerequisites required.
Under the guidance of Andrew of Backwoods Bushcraft, we will explore principles and best practices for an ethical harvest. You will be shown how to prepare a hunt, process the meat, and make use of all of the parts of the Whitetail Deer, including the process of making buckskin! The village setting will allow for an immersive experience interwoven with stories, songs and embodied explorations.
This is not a guided hunt. It’s what comes “before” and what happens “after”. The perfect opportunity to build on your skills, define what it means for you to be a “hunter”, and be confident on your next trip!
What to expect/Topics covered:
-A discussion around ethics and different styles of hunting
-Animal behavior and tracking
-Gear and camouflage
-Online and “in the field” scouting
-Improvised tools and traditional weapons
-Field dressing and meat processing
-Brain tanning to make buckskin (to bring home afterwards)
-Making jerky and cooking on fires
-The journey of “becoming a hunter” and building resilience
-Opportunity for personal development and community building

A word from the instructors:

“Holistic hunting experience is about getting in touch with what hunting is at the core. What it means to hunt, how to hunt and how to honor our harvests as much as we can. This is a hands-on experience where you will get your hands dirty and process an animal.
To us hunting is a journey that will have its many challenges. How we overcome our challenges in life and as hunters are what defines us and makes us who we are. To some this is a spiritual practice and an annual pilgrimage as much as anything.
To call oneself a hunter is a badge of honor and with that it means it needs to be mindful and conscious and connected to the animal and nature” Andrew Crawford-White from Backwoods Bushcraft

“As a hunting apprentice, I am honored to support Andrew in his vision and provide community building pieces to round out the 'Tracks and Hide' experience. As an outdoor enthusiast, I have long yearned for a more meaningful way to connect with nature and the ways of the ancestors. In a society where everything is so easy and comfortable, there is strong medicine in cultivating patience and presence through the art of holistic hunting. I believe anyone can benefit from this experience (even “non-hunters”) by reaching a deeper understanding of animal behavior and the interconnectedness of the forest.” Andrea Fox from Elemental Journeys
