For 30 years, model trains have delighted visitors to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums during the holiday season. This year, Hayes Presidential is again offering an additional train experience to add to the joy of seeing the model trains. Kids and adults can ride around Spiegel Grove in a trackless train on Friday, Nov. 29.
Romick Railway of Findlay will bring its trackless train to the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums and offer rides around the exterior of the museum.
Rides are offered from 1 to 4 p.m. and will last about 5 minutes. Tickets are $2 for ages 3 and older and include a cup of complimentary cocoa. Kids 2 and younger ride for free.
Online tickets are coming soon. Walk-ins also are welcome.
Tickets will be sold for an hour time-slot, allowing ticket-holders to come any time during that hour and ride when there is space available on the train.
Before and after their rides, visitors can see the “Hayes Train Special” model train display, which will open for the holiday season the same day in the museum auditorium. Admission to the train display is free.
The display includes interactive buttons that allow visitors to blow the train whistle, move the ice skaters on the pond in the Victorian holiday village and more. The “Hayes Train Special” is sponsored by Croghan Colonial Bank and the Gordon W. Knight Family.
The train rides and “Hayes Train Special” are part of Hayes Presidential’s holiday series of events, called A Presidential Christmas. The title sponsor for A Presidential Christmas is GEM, Inc. Partial funding for A Presidential Christmas is by Wright Leather Works.
