About this Event
What happens when we slow down and take our time looking at the public spaces, buildings and monuments that surround us? This heritage trail takes you on a walk through Kelvingrove Park, stopping at various locations that speak to Glasgow’s past as a city of empire and imperial metropolis.
Beginning at the eastern tip of Kelvingrove Park, at the entrance at the intersection of Clifton Street and LaBelle Place, we’ll wind our way along some of its footpaths and trails exploring sites that speak to Glasgow’s past as a city deeply involved in and shaped by colonial and imperial networks that were economic, social and cultural in nature. Traces of this are largely invisible today – there are no signs or plaques telling us about this – but by slow walking and close looking we can bring these ‘hidden’ histories into view.
This walk through Kelvingrove Park will follow clearly marked and paved paths, and as much as possible will stop at locations where there are seats and benches. However, the park is hilly and we’ll be making our way up to the top near Park Circus, which can be steep in places.
