The architect Felix Candela, through his company Cubiertas Ala, promoted throughout Mexico the construction of concrete shells. It was a technology well-suited to the conditions in Mexico, particularly related to the low cost of labor. This tour will visit some of the iconic buildings of the 1950s including the restaurant Los manantiales in Xochimilco (1958) and four churches (Virgen de la Medalla Milagrosa, Church of Santa Monica, El Altillo Chapel, and the Saint Vincent de Paul chapel). The tour ends at the market at Coyoacán where participants can enjoy tostadas in the shade of concrete umbrellas.
