We are excited to share the news of a brand new trail under development at Stringham Park. The Peter Huff Trail is a project that has been in the works for a number of years, and this year it has come to fruition thanks to some devoted community partners.Project Background: Peter Huff is the former Parks & Recreation Director who was the leader and visionary of this department for 29 ½ years. He was instrumental in developing parks and trails in the town, and is an avid hiker. When Peter left and a new director came on board, it was made known that he had wanted to see a trail on the ridgeline in the back of Stringham Park. The property ownership was not finalized at the time of Peter’s retirement, so the project never happened. Once the town gained ownership, it was a desire to see Peter’s vision completed. Fast forward to the past year… with the guidance and direction of Hank Osborn of the NYNJ Trail Conference, the project began in earnest and conversations became reality. Hank has worked with members of the LaGrange CAC and LaGrange Sunrise Rotary to design and clear the trail. Custom trail markers were made by the current Parks and Recreation Director, and new kiosks were ordered and installed by our parks crew.
We will officially cut the ribbon and open the trail at a ceremony on Sunday, October 19th, at 12:30pm. Peter Huff will be down from Maine to celebrate this milestone with us. Please save the date, RSVP, and plan to join us. It’s a very special project dedicated to Peter’s selfless dedication to our community and our parks. And it’s a gift from all of us who worked on it, to all of you. We hope you enjoy it for years to come! Happy Hiking.
