About this Event
At , we are dedicated to fostering local dialogues within the cultural communities across the Isle of Wight. Back in June 2024, we had our first gathering at Newport Minster, where over 20 enthusiastic individuals came together to discuss and enhance the quality of life in Newport, the Island’s central hub.
Despite concerns of fragmentation and neglect in Newport, the meeting highlighted a strong collective commitment to celebrating the town’s unique assets, including three theatres, the newly renovated Minster, Quay Arts – a vibrant centre for exhibitions, theatre shows, and live music – museums, the Lord Louis Library, and Strings, a beloved music venue and safe space for young people.
This gathering marked the beginning of a series of meaningful conversations aimed at revitalising Newport’s cultural landscape for businesses and visitors alike. We'd love for you to attend our second session, in collaboration with the Newport Cultural Consortium, Monday January 13th 2025 starting at 6pm at 64 High Street, Newport, PO30 1BA.
Newport Cultural Consortium
Established in 2020 as part of the Newport High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ), the Newport Cultural Consortium (TNCC) is a partnership between cultural organisations dedicated to celebrating our historic town’s rich cultural heritage. Initially funded by Historic England, the group collaborated to deliver a variety of cultural activities during the 3-year HAZ programme.
Although the funded programme has concluded, we recognise the benefits of continuing this collaboration. We aim to strengthen the group’s impact by inviting additional partners to join us. By sharing information, promoting each other’s work, planning events, applying for funding, troubleshooting, and brainstorming, the consortium can greatly benefit its members.
Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council is committed to ensuring that our venue at 64 High Street is accessible to all members of the community. Our building includes the following accessibility features:
- Accessible Entrance: The main entrance is wheelchair accessible.
- Accessible Toilet: There is an accessible toilet available on the ground floor.
- Meeting Room Facilities: The meeting room is equipped with a projector and screen. The room is accessible and includes a kitchen area with tea and coffee provided.
- Parking: There are nearby public parking facilities with designated accessible parking spaces.
We strive to make our events and activities inclusive and welcoming to everyone. If you have any specific accessibility needs or require further assistance, please contact us at [email protected]
