About this Event
Please join Steve Landrigan of the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk (FBHW) to explore a portion of the East Boston waterfront that was the first to be developed and for the past 190 years has been the scene of ongoing innovation and enterprise. Learn how East Boston became the city’s new industrial waterfront when the downtown wharves proved too crowded. Along with factories and shipbuilding came new waves of people to work on the docks, many of them immigrants bringing new languages and cultures to Boston. See how recent gentrification has brought new ideas on how to protect the shore from the ravages of climate change.
Total walking distance: ~ 1.5 miles.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your own water bottle.
The Friends of the Boston Harborwalk is an all-volunteer group affiliated with Boston Harbor Now. The group meets monthly to promote awareness, public enjoyment and local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk. For more information on membership, please contact Mike Manning, Chair, at [email protected]
