NOW OPEN: The Rogers Historical Museum announces the Hawkins House Themed Tour, “A House in Mourning.” The Hawkins House ‘dressed’ for mourning explores the etiquette rules, superstitions, and customs of a funeral service from the turn of the 20th century with guided tours from September 20-November 1, 2025.
In the 19th century, “to mourn” meant not just to feel grief but to follow the established conventions governing the conduct of the funeral service, the decoration of the home, memorialization of the deceased, and the behavior of the family and those around them. “A House in Mourning” will explore the customs related to mourning through guided tours of the house decorated for a funeral.
Tours are held during museum hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
