Statistically, the warmest day of the Wauwatosa Summer is the week of July 17th. That’s why we feel it is appropriate to bring you Tosa tonight’s hottest show of 2024 on July 17th: The Push Stars with special guests Elephonic.Proudly serving the Wauwatosa community for over 100 years through charitable giving and sponsorships, our friends at WaterStone Bank present this great night of American alt-pop and rock.
Also, did you know that WaterStone Bank is committed to giving back to the neighborhoods they live and work in? They focus on supporting organizations serving women and children, community development, education, and veterans. They have been one of Tosa Tonight’s longest-standing supporters and our series just wouldn’t be what it is without them.
Thank you, WaterStone Bank.
Kicking off the night is Milwaukee super group Elephonic. We call ‘em a “super group” for two reasons: 1) they are comprised of a veteran group of super Wisconsin musicians who have all starred in other music ventures, and 2) they ARE super.
Leading Elephonic is Mike Jarvis. Jarvis was the lead singer and songwriter of two acclaimed Milwaukee bands: The Blow Pops and The Lackloves. After a little hiatus, Jarvis is back. His latest vision of sonic chamber folk-pop is Elephonic and it features some of Milwaukee’s finest musicians. Elephonic sounds both familiar and new. Exuberant and melodic, their songs can get stuck in your head. (Looking at you, ‘Why Can’t You Listen’ 🤣) With waterfalls of cello and violin, deft keyboards, hooky guitars, and driving rhythm topped with harmony, Elephonic raises the bar on all things euphonious, catchy, and pure pop.
What a perfect opener for our headliner. But there’s something about our headliner. We can’t quite figure it out. Hmm…
Ah. Got it! Their song ‘Everything Shines’ was featured in the movie ‘There’s Something About Mary’. And didn’t we see them on tour with Matchbox Twenty? We sure did!
The Push Stars’ live performances have been few and far in between, but we talked these Boston alternative popsters to come to Wauwatosa. Formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1996, the band members include Chris Trapper, Ryan MacMillan and Dan McLoughlin. They developed a following playing shows in Boston, then released their first album, "Meet Me at the Fair" in 1996. Since then, they have released four studio albums, as well as a live compilation album, and have had several of their songs featured in television, film, and soundtracks. Rob Thomas heard the band's work and was so impressed, he brought The Push Stars on tour with Matchbox Twenty.
This is going to be a night where the music on the Hart Park Rotary Performance Pavilion stage is going to be as hot as the average July 17th temps and we can not wait!
