Birds in Winter - February 27, 2025

Winter is a harsh season, yet many birds stay in Toronto and survive. Why don’t they all fly south? How do they stay warm, find food and shelter? Which birds stay and which ones migrate?

Learn about migrant birds and their incredible journeys, visiting birds who come to the city from their boreal and Arctic homes, and resident birds who spend the long, cold winter months here.

What’s that Bird? – March 27, 2025

Curious about the birds you see in your backyard or neighbourhood? Learn the basics of bird identification using clues like size and shape, colours, behaviour and songs. Find out about field guides, birding apps and other helpful resources, and discover great birding opportunities here in Toronto.

Spring Brings the Birds - April 24, 2025

By the end of February, some migratory birds have already started their long journey back to Canada from their tropical winter homes. By March we are hearing the dawn chorus of singing Robins, Cardinals, Red-winged Blackbirds and more. Spring birding is a wonderful experience, and you can be part of it! Learn more about local birds and visiting migrants, and discover how they find their way back to their nesting grounds, find a mate, build nests and raise their families.

Birds in a Changing World – May 29, 2025

Birds, like all living creatures, are being affected by a changing climate, habitat loss, human development and more. It seems overwhelming, but we can all help birds, as individuals and as a community. Learn about threats to birds, including glass/window collisions, habitat destruction and more. Find out how scientists, organizations, and birding groups are working to save them, and how you can help make Toronto a bird-friendly city.
