About this Event
Too Good for Middle School teaches students to weigh the positive and negative consequences of their choices as they examine how their emotions influence their goals and decisions. They learn effective communication skills that prepare them to share feelings and ideas with others, refuse negative peer pressure assertively, and enhance cooperation to build stronger social bonds. Students will learn about the effects of alcohol, nicotine, and marijuana use as well as prescription, over the counter, and street drugs.
Students practice setting reachable goals, making responsible decisions, and communicating effectively with pro-social peers in fun, interactive games, activities, and role-play. They are encouraged to consider the consequences of their actions before making decisions to avoid negative consequences and study various scenarios and work together to think of alternative affirmative choices to produce positive outcomes.
Students share ways to identify and manage their emotions in healthy ways so they can stay calm and not become overwhelmed by them. Students discuss the role of reporting bullying situations for the benefit and safety of everyone involved and practice peaceful methods to manage bullying situations in a healthy way for the bully, the target, and the witnesses.
