The group was formed in 1988 by D'Wayne Wiggins, his brother Raphael Saadiq, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley. The group's name started as a joke but became their official name because it "had a nice ring to it". The group released their independently released single "One Night Stand" in 1987. They then signed with Wing Records and released their debut album Who? with the help of Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy. Album The Revival released in 1990, The Revival featured the singles "Feels Good" and "It Never Rains (In Southern California)". The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1991. The group established the Oakland Youth Aid foundation in 1988 to provide after-school programs, violence prevention forums, and education in the arts and entertainment industry to children in need. The group still tours today, performing their classic hits in concert venues around the world.
