Tony Saunders coming off his album Sexy Somethin, which was #1 on SmoothJazz.com indie charts for 13 weeks and the second most played album in 2021, returns to Yoshi’s for an evening of great contemporary and soulful jazz. Joining Tony will be The Rainforest Band featuring Vernon “Ice” Black guitar, Dave Ellis sax, Gail Jhonson keyboards, Kevin Wong keyboards and Darian Gray drums. Tony Saunders Bio:

Two-time Emmy Award winning bassist, composer, producer and son of legendary Bay Area keyboardist, Merl Saunders, Tony Saunders’ life has been one musical adventure after another. As an arranger, producer, composer and performer, Saunders has played and recorded with a

virtual who’s who of popular music and jazz – including Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Dave Liebman, Les McCann, Dr. John, Joe Sample, Chaka Khan, Ringo Star, Bo Diddley, Mavis Staples, John Lee Hooker, The Hawkins Family, and Smooth Jazz greats Jeff Lorber, Blake Aaron, Adam Hawley, Greg Manning, Gerald Albright, Gail Jhonson, Jessie J and Paul Jackson Jr. Over the years, Tony has scored films, corporate videos, TV shows and commercials, and produced many artists out of his own studio, Studio 1281. He’s written the music and been musical director for stage musicals, including Rock Justice, which was cowritten by Jefferson Starship’s Marty Balin.

Vernon “Ice” Black Bio:

An accomplished virtuoso guitarist/vocalist, Vernon Black spent most of the past 35 years touring, recording and film tracking with music legends like Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Maze and Celine Dion. His work can be heard in films like The Bodyguard, License to K*ll, Beverly Hills Cop II,

and in advertising jingles for Jaguar, Chevrolet, Toyota, Nissan, Mattel and Levi’s. Black served as associate music director at the Jimi Hendrix Festival at Bumbershoot Stadium, Seattle Washington (1995), where he opened the show with Jimi Hendrix’s original band The Experience featuring musical legends Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding.
