with Tristan Clarridge & Simon Chrisman
----------------------------------------
Tony Furtado's band will include Luke Price (Love Dean), Todd Sickafoose (Ani DiFranco, Anais Mitchell), Tristan Clarridge (Bee Eaters), Simon Chrisman (Bee Eaters), and Stephanie Schneiderman.
Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the ďŹair of a master chef (heâs also an accomplished sculptor, but thatâs another story). All of the music of America is in Tonyâs music. Relix hit the nail on the head when writing of Tony: âTrue talent doesnât need categories.
âA native of Pleasanton, California, who now makes his home in Portland, Oregon, Tony Furtado took up the banjo at age 12, inspired by the Beverly Hillbillies television show and a sixth-grade music report. He ďŹrst attracted national attention in 1987, when he won the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship in WinďŹeld, Kansas. Not long after that, Tony opted for the life of a full-time professional musician, joining Laurie Lewis & Grant Street. A second victory at WinďŹeld, in 1991, bookended his years with Grant Street.
Tony has performed throughout the world at top venues and appeared at such prestigious music festivals as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Jazz Aspen, Kerrville Folk Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival and countless others.
Tristan Clarridge
Raised in a tipi in the northern California mountains, Tristan Clarridge grew up immersed in the music of J.S. Bach and Texas old-time fiddling, first picking up the fiddle before the age of 2. A 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion, 2-time Grand Masters Champion and cellist with The Bee Eaters and Crooked Still, he has also toured and recorded with many of his friends and musical heroes including Darol Anger, Brittany Haas, Keith Little, Jody Stecher, Jeremy Kittel, Hanneke Cassel, Laurie Lewis, Bruce Molsky, Natalie MacMaster, Abigail Washburn, and Sean Watkins (of Nickel Creek), and is co-founder (with sister Tashina) of the Shasta Music Summit.
Simon Chrisman
Hammer dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman brings an unusual style to an instrument that has previously been thought to have limited range and technique⌠his inventive virtuosic touch and sophisticated rhythmic sensibilities are redefining the instrument and earning the attention of musicians from all over the world. He tours with the Jeremy Kittel Band and the Bee Eaters, and has performed with Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Mike Marshall, Laurie Lewis and Seamus Egan.
