The SOAR 4th Annual Speaker Series is excited to center the Piro language restoration work of local artist and knowledge keeper Tonio LeFebre (Piro/Tiwa). This vibrant conversation focuses on his work on Piro language revival, revitalization, and resurgence, as well as the differences between the three. In 2014, Tonio was chosen to participate in a project to resurrect the language of his Piro ancestors. Since that time, the project has produced positive results in reviving an integral part of a culture believed to be lost for good.
As a visual artist, Tonio relies on his rich cultural upbringing to influence his work in a variety of mediums. An extended portfolio of Tonio's work is available at toniolefebre.com, on Facebook @TonioLeFebre, and on Instagram @lebefre_art_design.
