Tongues of Fire Workshop invites Black women to sharpen craft through compassionate critique, collective growth, & liberatory storytelling.
About this Event

Tongues of Fire Writers Workshops are a foundational program of the sisters of the yam Writing Society. This ongoing, donation-based, facilitator-led workshop offering is rooted in the call for Black women to write and tell their stories as an essential individual and collective liberatory practice. The program creates a structured, supportive space where iron sharpens iron through peer feedback, revision, and skill-building, guided by compassion, confidentiality, and mutual respect.

In February, Tongues of Fire focuses on lyrics and songwriting with an emphasis on Black anthems. Participants are invited to refine, rephrase, consider, and challenge their works-in-progress in the community to expand voice, confidence, and storytelling skills. Writers are encouraged to submit short works prior to the workshop; however, participants without a current piece are welcome to arrive prepared to create new work during the session, ensuring full participation regardless of where they are in their writing process.

Workshops are open to all skill levels and are conducted with care and discretion. All participants must pre-register and follow workshop procedures and guidelines to maintain the integrity of the space.

This session is facilitated by M3CCA.
