Back when I was a wee lad Thursday nights went off in Canberra. So what better way to commiserate my 41st birthday than a Thursday night carnival featuring a wickedly adventurous lineup. Watch this space for proper updates and bios not written by me or AI but let the bands speak for themselves! For now, be teased by the subjective facts.
CICATRIX:
It is the sound of hell & heaven fighting for primacy over your soul. It rumbled out of Tasmania and across Lake Tuggeranong and went missing, but you can still hear it forever rumbling in the Brindabellas. Seductive thunder; a surreal daydream.
MESA+:
It's a 1980s horror film narrated by a classically guitar-slinging maestro, remastered for the new world. It doesn't sound like Donovan but there's nary a hint of Justin Timberlake either. I'm stumped. Come and be stumped alongside yours truly.
SURPRISE GUEST ESCAPING INCARCERATION IN A CLOSET FOR FIVE YEARS:
Watch this space.
NAPOLEON ICECREAM:
It's not stoner rock and it's not your standard fare. I don't know what it is, which is why it's good. It has flare. It has gumption and makes your limbs vibrate.
TOM WOODWARD & THE TRUE DELUSIONS
It is truly delusional. It lives off roadkill. It doesn't know which lane is which. Is it a stray crew of folksinging rock-dogs or a lost band of rock-slinging folk hogs?
Nobody knows.
I'll be turning 41 that day so I hope to make it along.
