Iconic Australian guitarist, Frankston’s Geoff Achison met UK sax prodigy Tom Waters on his last tour of England. Encouraged by mutual friends, Geoff invited Tom to join the band on stage and, behold, it went off as though they’d been playing together for ever. Now, the pair has joined forces in Australia to present “Brush with the Blues”, a unique showcase of Blues, Country, Rock & Funky Jazz. Both bring their own catalogue of original music to the project to be played alongside some classic roots gems. Dedicating the show to the late Jeff Beck with whom Tom has recorded, the show’s name comes from a Jeff Beck number that Tom has played live alongside Jeff at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Club.
Saxophonist Tom Waters is one of London’s most heralded new performers and son of acclaimed UK pianist Ben Waters. Already highly credentialed, Tom has had regular residencies in all London’s hot spots and has toured extensively round Europe & North America with his band Electric People. A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music, he has played and/or recorded with chart-topping bands and rock ‘n roll legends such as the Rolling Stones, Ray Davies, Ronnie Wood’s Mad Lads, Jeff Beck, George Thorogood, the BB King All Stars, Free Nationals & Broken Social Scene. Now a regular with Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra, Tom’s first album, being launched in October ’24, includes contributions from Jools Holland (UK), Chanel Haynes the Cinelli Brothers (UK Blues Band of the year), Airel Posen (US) and, of course, Geoff Achison.
Geoff Achison is well-known internationally as a multi-award-winning blues-roots singer-songwriter renowned for his guitar playing. Drawing on deep blues, soul, funk and acoustic folk influences, he formed his own band, the Souldiggers and released his debut album in the early 90s, going on to touring regularly across the USA, UK & Europe. Geoff's music has been favourably compared to major artists such as Eric Clapton, JJ Cale and the Allman Brothers Band and is launching his 14th album in Nov ’24.
