‘Tom is a brilliant fiddler & great singer; a wonderful ambassador of the James Hill musical tradition.’ (Aly Bain). Tom’s ground-breaking fiddle playing has had a huge influence on his contemporaries. The traditional sounds of Newcastle, Scotland, Ireland & America are fused with classical, jazz & bluegrass. The results are timeless. His first major concert was supporting The Jazz Genius of the violin Stephane Grappelli !He has played with Bob Fox, Kieran Halpin, his own band Dabhand, Alistair Anderson's Syncopace, Phil Cunningham, Barbara Dixon, Chris Newman, Pauline Cato and Lindisfarne. He's an inspiration for a new generation of musicians including Seth Lakeman & Kate Rusby and many others.
The workshop will focus on making the tunes easier to play to suit the style of each musician. Tom will use some of his own tunes to demonstrate. He will look at the bowing methods of the students & offer constructive help in their own studies. Tom is a fine teacher,
his workshops are always a joyful experience.
