Recording artist to some, celebrated actor and author to others, philanthropist to most – Tom Jackson is extraordinarily passionate about creating change. A bass-baritone voice for food banks, the disenfranchised, the traumatized, and an Ambassador and Member of the order of the Red Cross, Tom is a ‘minstrel with a mission’ and renaissance man.Born on One Arrow Reserve, SK, his career is unparalleled and abundantly decorated. As a folk-pop singer-songwriter he has released 16 albums, and is recognized for lead roles on hit TV series like North of 60, Shining Time Station, Red Earth Uncovered and Sullivan’s Crossing. Guest roles include Outlander, Cardinal, Supergirl, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Law & Order.
There are also movies, notably Cold Pursuit opposite Liam Neeson, Deadfall, Mee-Shee: The Water Giant and Grizzly Falls.
Tom is understandably proud of all that, yet it is his extensive charitable work that is arguably his crowning achievement. As founder of The Huron Carole Benefit Concert Series with over $250 million in combined cash/in-kind value for food banks and disaster relief raised to date, Tom is a Companion of the Order of Canada.
Additional honours, including Juno and Gemini Humanitarian Awards, Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, honorary degrees from 11 Canadian Universities, and the Queen’s Gold, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medals have been bestowed on him over the years contributing to his status as one of Canada’s most influential, distinguished, and revered sons.
Opening: Floen – Lana and Keith Floen are the co-founders of the popular Alberta-based group, The Travelling Mabels. For this concert they are bringing their dynamic duo energy to BVMC as they open for their long-time friend Tom Jackson.
