During the Second World War, English author J.R.R. Tolkien spent a lot of time at a house in the grounds of Stonyhurst College whilst writing The Lord of the Rings.
The book, a sequel to The Hobbit, is one of the best selling books of all time, with over 150 million copies sold.
This 7 mile (11km) walk around The Ribble Valley in Lancashire takes approximately 3.5 hours. The route is relatively flat and easy, with no significant hills, and takes us past the impressive Stonyhurst College, through woodlands and along the River Ribble.
We walk at a slow / steady pace for this hike, only a low / moderate level of fitness is required.
The event starts and ends outside the Shireburn Arms pub in Hurst Green, BB7 9QJ, where we also pop in for a chat and drink at the end of the walk.
