Join us for the final 2024 edition of Toitū Sounds – welcoming the Puspawarna Gamelan Community Group for their end of year performance. The Gamelan is a traditional percussion ensemble that originates from the regions of Indonesia, each variety distinct to its geographical region. The set at the University of Otago is a Javanese gamelan, associated with the royal courts and villages. The Puspawarna Gamelan group prides itself on being community-based and is under the guidance of Dr. Joko Susilo who is a world renowned wayang kulit master.
Take in the beauty of the traditional Indonesian percussion instruments, as they present the Shadow Puppet Performance: Babat Wana Marta (Bhima Build the Kingdom).
