The dancefloor is set to light up this October when Wellington's finest soul/funk/roots collective TOI get together with some of their best buds to pay homage to Aotearoa’s criminally overlooked 1970s boogie scene. The soul/funk/disco magic of the likes of Dalvanius, Mark Williams, Collision, Prince Tui Teka, The Yandall Sisters, 1860 and Tina Cross had a new light shone on it with the release of John
Baker and Alan Perrot’s 2017 compilation Heed the Call: Whakarongo Ngā Tamariki. Now the capital has a chance to celebrate the music live as TOI rediscover and reimagine these sonic taonga.
Comprised of a stellar lineup of Aotearoa’s leading musicians, for over a decade TOI have been bringing crowds together to groove all across New Zealand and Australia in both headline spots and as support for the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ocean Alley, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Tash Sultana. Don’t miss your chance to see them for this one-night-only exploration of one of Aotearoa’s most interesting and dynamic scenes.
Featuring the vocal stylings of Wellington’s own leading lady of soul Lisa Tomlins, TOI’s Conway Jeune (aka C-Way Green from Fat Freddy’s Drop) and another very special guest to be announced. TOI is Conway Jeune (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Bryn Van Vliet (Saxophone & BVs), Jules Blewman (Lead Guitar), Luther Hunt (Drums & BVs), Kaito Walley (Trombone & Percussion), Daniel Hayles (Keys & Synths) and Johnny Lawrence (Bass).
